Newcastle United Football Club The Newcastle United Football Club is otherwise known as The Toon or The Magpies. This club was founded when the two local teams that had been rivals, the Newcastle West End and the Newcastle East End, merged in December of 1892. After uniting, the team achieved continuing success, especially in the 1950s. Newcastle United originally wore red jerseys, but now wear a uniform of black and white stripes during home games and a blue shirt during change games. The Magpies' home stadium is St. James Park, which is the third largest stadium in England. Newcastle United has won four First Division titles, an Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, six FA Cups and a UEFA Intertoto Cup. The Magpies are also the current champions of the Football League Championships.
