The perfect weekend trip in Budapest

We have prepared the perfect plan for your Budapest weekend break! Budapest is often still forgotten when we talk about city trips around Europe. Most times, the “classics” come to mind like Rome, London, and Barcelona but if Budapest is not on top of your mind, you are missing out!

This marvellous city isn’t called the “Grand Dame” for nothing, inspiring its visitors with great architecture, delicious food, fun activities, and beautiful history.

Friday Evening

Every city becomes more beautiful when you view it from above. To kick off your weekend trip, why not visit one of the great rooftop bars in Budapest and enjoy a breathtaking view during sunset and while the lights of the night turn on?

Saturday Morning

After waking up from a good night’s sleep at the Leonardo Boutique Hotel Budapest M-Square or the  Leonardo Hotel Budapest you should grab a famous Hungarian pastry from any bakery around - they all know what they are doing! Try a kakaós csiga for example, a favourite of the locals!

Once filled up and energised, it is time to admire some of the beautiful and historic architecture around the city. Walk across the famous Szechenyi Chain Bridge and walk up to the Budapest Castle. Here you can roam around for hours if you wanted to and also enjoy the incredible view across the Danube river and onto the “Pest” side of Budapest.

Fun Fact: Budapest used to be two parts, “Buda” and “Pest”, divided by the river Danube! Stroll back over the bridge and enjoy a quick lunch snack at one of the many cafés along the river.

Saturday Afternoon

No visit to Budapest is complete without visiting one of the many thermal baths around the city. Most known are the Széchenyi Baths. Grab your towel and swimming suit and enjoy this special experience. Make sure to use the main entrance from Kós Károly Walkway to be amazed by the interior mosaics inside the Baroque building.

Saturday Evening

You obviously have to end your day with a traditional Hungarian dish. And what else to choose other than some delicious Gulasch? You will find different Gulasch variations in many restaurants around the city and each adds its own special note to it. Once the sun sets and the night takes over, make sure to visit one of the classical Hungarian Ruin bars. They are a place to grab a drink, a bite to eat and simply have a good time.

Looking for great nightlife?  Budapest is the perfect place to get lost in it. Bar hopping, clubbing or dancing the night away, there is something for everyone.

Sunday Morning

After filling up on a nutritious breakfast at the Leonardo Boutique Hotel Budapest M-Square or Leonardo Hotel Budapest it is time for a little more sightseeing and some shopping, before you head back home. On your way to the Hungarian Parliament building, you will pass through the Inner city and go past the St. Stephen’s Basilica with its beautiful marketplace. Get some souvenirs and postcards for yourself and your loved ones to always remember this fabulous weekend you spent in Budapest. See you next time!

And if you have any more time to fill, the staff at Leonardo Boutique Hotel Budapest M-Square and Leonardo Hotel Budapest are more than happy to give you some more recommendations and local hotspots to check out!
