Are you a fan of theatrical performances and arts? After you check in to one of the many
hotels in Manchester city centre, be sure that you check out the extravagant
Royal Exchange Theatre. Theatre plays are much appreciated by the locals and tourists that come explore the area, and the Royal Exchange Theatre has a variety of shows that appeal to a wide range of tastes.
Explore and learn about the interesting history of the Royal Exchange Theatre. The building was founded by a group of artistic directors in the year 1976. The group composed of James Maxwell, Richard Negri, Braham Murray, Caspar Wrede, and Micheal Elliot. About twenty years later the building suffered damage from a destructive bomb by the IRA which took repairs over two years that cost over £32 million, but was luckily funded by a National Lottery. During this time the building added more attractions such as restaurants, bars, and bookshops.
The theatre also won Theatre of the Year from the Barclays Theatre Awards because of its strong comeback and innovative improvements after the bombing. The theatre has been noted to have attracted and showcased actors of high skill levels and even the likes of Hugh Grant and Kate Winslet before they became famous on film.
The studio and theatre shows are the main attraction at the Royal Exchange Theatre. Artists and playwrights from all over the world come here to show their creative material to the audience. Upcoming shows are Saturday Night and Sunday Morning, Miss Julie, Baglady, and Carol Ann Duffy & Friends. Tickets are available to be booked online.
An example of the many attractions at the Royal Exchange Theatre is the Craft Shop. Here you can check out the free exhibitions in the Great Hall which change throughout the year. Showing in March to April is the 'A Moment in Time' exhibition. This features art and jewelry made from vintage like materials by different makers. There are also workshops that take place in which you can learn new ways of creating your own art. Jewelry pieces and quaint contemporary gifts are also available to purchase in the Craft shop.
Other notable areas of the theatre The Great Hall Cafe, modern British food at The Round Restaurant, exhibitions at The Mezzanine Gallery, and the Costume Hire department. The theatre also gives classes on theatrical arts and training for youth and adults. These include theatre song writing, play discussion, and creativity skill building. A visit to this theatre is one of the finer
things to do in Manchester and should certainly be taking into consideration upon your next visit to the city.
