London is the place to be in the summer months. From cultural talking points to big sporting events, it’s all happening down in the capital. Many people think the only way to access the thrills the city has to offer is through pricey tickets, but this isn’t the case; there is so much to see and do in London that doesn’t break the bank! To help you enjoy the summer (without spending a fortune), here’s a look at some of the best free events in London that you shouldn’t miss out on.

Summer by the River

From June to August, London Bridge City (the area of the south bank that runs between London Bridge and Tower Bridge) becomes home to riverside bars, an open-air theatre and cinema, and much more as the Summer by the River festival returns. The biggest free, outdoor festival in London, Summer by the River boasts a plethora of entertainment, food, drink, and music events overlooking the Thames River, all summer long.

Wimbledon 2019

Just because you don’t have tickets for the Grand Slam event of the summer doesn’t mean you have to skip the sporting fun! Across the UK’s capital there are giant outdoor screens, so you can watch all the tennis happenings – for free – out in the sun. Whether you watch canal-side at Granary Square in King’s Cross, in a deckchair on the elevated terrace at Brown Hart Gardens in Mayfair, or with a view of St. Paul’s Cathedral on the rooftop at One New Change, there’s no need for you to miss out on any of the action! If your interested in staying nearby then take a look at our hotels near Mayfair.

Notting Hill Carnival

Experience the excitement of Europe’s biggest carnival in London this summer. Over the August bank holiday weekend, Notting Hill is taken over with Caribbean colours, music and flavours. Elaborate floats, costumed performers and dynamic music fills the streets as the parade flows through the streets of Notting Hill.

Summer Screen at Canary Wharf

Starting at 11 am every day between Monday 10 June and Wednesday 25 September, Canary Wharf offers an action-packed programme of sports, entertainment and current events highlights on its numerous summer screens. These screens boast a variety of viewing opportunities to suit any interest, from documentaries to sports, from the music of the Proms to movie nights, you can catch it all in Canary Wharf. Just grab some refreshments and settle in.

Parallax Art Fair

During the first weekend of July, you can find over 7000 pieces of astonishing artwork at the Parallax Art Fair in Kensington. Europe’s largest consumer fair exhibits over 300 independent artists from around the globe and features a eclectic mix of cultural and artistic styles. The fair prides itself on its egalitarian approach to exhibition and encourages all to come visit and enjoy the exquisite art on show.

The Soho Village Fete

A little wacky and definitely out of the ordinary, the Soho Village Fete is a fun and enjoyable day out for all the family. Watch on in awe as the Soho Police tackle the Soho Firemen in an epic tug of war, 40 local waiters race each other while trying not to drop anything from their trays, and people gamble on the outcome of the Snail Race. The 45th Soho Village Fete promises to be as barmy as ever and is undoubtedly worth a visit.
