Hailed as the ‘Cultural Capital of Scotland’, Glasgow is bursting with life, with something different around every corner. The city is packed full of fascinating history and awe-inspiring architecture, and this is before you’ve even started exploring Glasgow’s renowned music and arts scene.

Although there are too many things to see and do in Glasgow to squeeze everything into one day, with careful planning you can see a lot of what the affectionately-nicknamed Dear Green Place has to offer.

To ensure your time in Glasgow runs smoothly, you need to find the perfect base. The Leonardo Inn Hotel Glasgow West End offers 137 modern guestrooms, and is the ideal place to lay your head after a long day of exploring this fascinating city.

Glasgow Cathedral and St Mungo’s Museum of Religious Life & Art

Did you know that Glasgow Cathedral is rumoured to have been built on the tomb of a saint? First constructed in the year 1136, it’s the oldest religious building in the city, and is the only cathedral on the Scottish Mainland that wasn’t destroyed in the Reformation of 1560. Nowadays, the cathedral stands watch over the city around it, and is a fine example of medieval gothic architecture.

Located just a stone’s throw away from the cathedral, St Mungo’s Museum of Religious Life and Art showcases magnificent works of art and remnants, and tells the story of how religion has shaped the world we live in today.

Glasgow Necropolis

Glasgow Necropolis began when a single person was buried next to the Molendinar Burn, and is now a sprawling labyrinth of crypts, statues and tombstones, with over 50,000 people interred in the grounds. Dubbed the ‘City of the Dead’ by locals, the graveyard is the final resting place of a variety of famous Glaswegians, including poets, architects and businessmen.

Tennant Caledonian Breweries

Once you’re done exploring the Glasgow Necropolis, it’s just a ten-minute walk to the Tennant Caledonian Breweries. Here you’ll have the opportunity to explore one of the city’s most historic breweries. Tennant Wellpark Brewery is a Glaswegian institution, and is home to the Tennant’s Story Heritage Centre – the largest beer attraction in the UK!

Lunch – Café Gandolfi

With an endless array of cafes and restaurants to choose from in Glasgow City Centre, you probably don’t need our help choosing somewhere for lunch! However, we do recommend grabbing a bite to eat at Café Gandolfi, where you can sample a modern take on traditional Scottish dishes. Alternatively, head two doors down to the renowned Gandolfi Fish, where you can enjoy some of the most delicious fresh seafood in the city.

University of Glasgow

The University of Glasgow was founded in 1451, and is the fourth oldest university in the UK. The Harry-Potter-esque buildings make for some magnificent exploration, and visitors can embark on a self-guided tour and learn more about the university’s colourful history.

Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum

Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum first opened its doors to the public in 1901 and continues to be one of Glasgow’s most popular and celebrated attractions to this day. Within its 22 galleries, Kelvingrove has pieces covering a variety of subjects, including animals, ancient civilisations and a range of temporary exhibitions. What’s more, all of this is housed in one of the most spectacular 1920s-style buildings in the city.
