Manchester is a thriving hub of bars, restaurants, and culture, making this city centre one of the best UK spots for a great night out. With this in mind, we have carefully selected our favourite bars offering a little more than just a beverage. Enjoy great views or an atmospheric roof terrace as you sup a cocktail or two during your visit.

Peruse below for Leonardo Hotel’s Guide to… Rooftop Bars in Manchester.

The Restaurant Bar & Grill

A sophisticated bar and dining spot, The Restaurant Bar and Grill is a great Manchester gem. Located on John Dalton Street, the bar and grill spans over three floors, however, the winning feature of this establishment is the alfresco terrace and bar. The stylish décor contrasts with an urban oasis feel with flowers and greenery decorating the exterior. The terrace also offers retractable shelter as well as heaters, so rain or shine, visitors can always enjoy the alfresco experience.

You can easily grab a bite to eat from their tasty food menu, which offers a nice selection of grilled and clay oven cooked meals. There is also a nice collection of drinks to choose from, including a selection of cocktails for you to try- the ‘Dark & Stormy’ cocktail is particularly nice and recommended for rum lovers!

Cloud 23

A little on the pricier side, Cloud 23 is the bar to visit for a truly memorable night out in Manchester. Situated in the Hilton Hotel in Deansgate and offering ‘the highest point in Manchester’, this incredible bar affords breath-taking views of the city centre and beyond. Large wall-sized windows ensure that all visitors can enjoy the panoramic views, which are particularly stunning at night when this busy metropolis is glowing with the city lights.

Cloud 23 offers an impressive selection of cocktails and spirits, and offers a sophisticated and elegant atmosphere to enjoy your beverage in style. If you get a little peckish, Cloud 23 also have a range of small and large sharing plates on offer. This rooftop bar has a strict smart/stylish dress code, so dress to impress for your evening of decadent luxury in one of Manchester’s hottest venues.

Épernay Champagne Bar

Describing itself as ‘Manchester’s best kept secret’, the Épernay Champagne Bar is an elegant champagne bar that offers a ‘comprehensive range’ of champagne (over 100) to tingle your taste buds! If champagne is a little fizzy for your tastes, there is a nice selection of wines and cocktails as an alternative. In addition to the extensive drinks menu, this bar is elegant and chic, with a romantic twist of soft tones, dim lighting and candlelight. Similar to Cloud 23, Épernay is surrounded with high ceilings and large glass windows allowing patrons to fully enjoy the great view overlooking Manchester city centre.

There are also snacks and light bites on offer if hunger strikes, and if you need any guidance on your drinks order, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable on the various champagnes and wines. ‘Quietly nestled’ in the Great Northern Tower, Épernay is the perfect bar for those wanting a great view of the city and a venue with a difference.

Black Dog Ballroom

Black Dog Ballroom

The Black Dog Ballroom is the perfect bar for those looking for buzzing atmosphere, fantastic cocktails and even a bit of entertainment. Located on New Wakefield Street, the Bar and roof terrace offers the ideal setting to catch some sun or enjoy an evening beverage. The décor offers a New York style diner with a stylish and slightly quirky twist. The roof terrace offers ‘permanent BBQ’ and a great New York menu aimed to ‘capture the flavours and textures’ of the thriving city. Cocktails should definitely be explored during a visit to the Black Dog Ballroom and for those with fidgety fingers, there are pool tables and karaoke available for entertainment.

If you’re keen to get on the dance floor, The Black Dog Ballroom also offers ‘Underdog’, their basement speakeasy club that has a great line up of DJs and live acts.
