Enjoy Ireland on a budget

In line with our Britain and Ireland on a shoestring competition we are out to prove it is possible to enjoy a short break on a shoestring with rates from only €59 B&B available  across our Dublin hotels for stay dates until the 16th of December 2012 when you book before the end the 11th of December 2012.

We have compiled all the fantastic responses from our Facebook followers to share great low-cost ways to enjoy Britain and Ireland. We had so many great suggestions that we’ve had to split them up into North and South England and Ireland.

In the first part of this series of blog posts we are providing the best suggestions on how to enjoy Ireland on a budget.

Fun Things to do in Dublin

Dublin is a popular destination, as it has so much to offer! There are countless activities for all types of people. Below are some of the best suggestions from our ‘Britain on a Shoestring’ Campaign.

Carolyn: “When visiting Dublin, get a day ticket with the Dart Railway and you can spend a fantastic day visiting all the towns and villages along the coastline such as Bray, Killiney, Dalkey, and so on. It’s a fantastic way of seeing many places very cheaply”.

Nuala: “Take a Dublin Tourism iWalk - you can select a range of podcasts for walks around town. All are free to download from their website and include a variety of tours from Viking and Medieval Dublin, to the mighty Croke Park Museum. And where better to rest you weary feet for the night than the delightful Leonardo Hotel at Christchurch?”

You’re going to need some fuel for all these activities, so Claire recommends heading to the Brother Hubbard on Capel Street for some soup and a sandwich. “Let's face it the days are getting chilly and you want to get some good, warm food into you” says Claire, “Go to this quaint independent café for lunch; all the food is freshly made, totally unique and tasty and the staff are the friendliest you will get in Dublin. Great advice we think, and it's only a 15 minute walk from the nearest Leonardo Hotel.

Fun Things to do in Belfast

Noreen from Belfast says you must take a tour of the City Hall – its ‘beautiful and very interesting’ – and we totally agree! It’s only a five minute walk around the corner from the Leonardo Hotel in Belfast too!

This whole days’ worth of advice from Daniel deserves a special mention, as we probably couldn’t have put it better ourselves; thanks very much Daniel!

“Discover a new emerging city - Belfast. Visit the new Titanic museum, stroll around Botanic Gardens, grab some fresh fish at St George's market, and sip some fine beer at the John Hewitt pub. Finish off a long day by checking into one of the most relaxing hotels in the city - Leonardo Hotel, of course”

Kelly-Ann has been kind enough to share her love of the Grand Opera House: “it is a fantastic and beautiful place to go”. Kelly-Ann also highly recommends the W5 – Interactive Discovery Centre – for those of us with kids; it’s a great place for them to have fun and learn stuff, without realising!

Right so, for Belfast, we’ve had; a tour round Belfast City Hall, the new Titanic Museum, a stroll around the Botanic Gardens, St. George’s Fish Market, and the John Hewitt pub, the Grand Opera House, and finally the W5 Interactive Discovery Centre.
