An Inexpensive Guide to Celebrating St. Patrick's Day in Dublin

Where better to celebrate St. Patrick's Day than Dublin’s fair city? On the 17^th of March, Dublin city will be transformed into a sea of green in honour of St. Patrick himself. We have come up with our insider’s guide to celebrating the Irish national holiday in the heart of the city and include activities that won’t be too harsh on your pocket.

St. Patrick's Day Parade

Dublin city centre will come to a standstill as the main event prepares to hit the streets. Be prepared for lots of colour and theatrics from worldwide bands to street entertainers.

The parade kicks off at 12pm from Parnell Square and makes it way up through O’Connell Street before it crosses the River Liffey and heads towards Dame Street. The Grand Marshall for this year’s event is none other than Mrs. Browns Boys funny man Brendan O’Carroll. To get the best vantage point, we recommend arriving to the city early and positioning yourself around St. Patrick's Cathedral on Patrick's Street.

Paddy's Day Unlocked

If you fancy celebrating St. Patrick's Day minus the booze but still with the ceol agus craic element, then we suggest heading to Paddy's Day Unlocked, an event taking place at Meeting House Square. The event promises to be jam packed with all things creative and cultural with appetising food and contemporary Irish music. Tickets to the event are priced at €5 and are available to purchase at the venue.

Greening the City

Some of Dublin’s most iconic buildings will ‘Go Green’ in line with the St. Patrick's Day celebrations happening this year. The well-known buildings include Trinity College, The GPO, Christchurch Cathedral, The Convention Centre and many more. Be sure to stroll around the city at 6pm to catch these famous landmarks turn a vibrant shade of green!

A trip to the Guinness Store House

If you don’t mind forking out a few quid then we recommend a trip to the Guinness Store House which will cost you €18. It’s time to dust off those dancing shoes and join in the fun for their annual St. Patrick's Day celebrations. Get ready for traditional live Irish music along with ceilis for you to join in and show off your dancing skills. You’ll also enjoy fantastic views of Dublin from the Gravity Bar and have the opportunity to try a pint of the black stuff too with a complimentary pint of Guinness included in the price.
