History of the London Jazz Festival
The London Jazz Festival emerged from a long standing music festival in Camden that featured a segment called Jazz Week. In 1992, the Camden Festival was forced to close its doors. Not wanting to lose Jazz Week, the London Arts Board transitioned Jazz Week into the London Jazz Festival. Initially small and focused in North London, the London Jazz Festival quickly grew into a London-wide, then international jazz extravaganza. At the heart of the London Jazz Festival was traditionally education, the aims of the festival still remain the same today; celebrating jazz in a city with rich cultural diversity and an ever expanding multitude of venues across London.
The London Jazz Festival 2016
The London Jazz Festival 2016 will be held between November 11th and November 20nd. It features over 2,000 artists, 300 gigs and 50 venues. This year's festival welcomes new faces to the Jazz scene with line-ups packed with fresh new talent. The top highlights this year are said to be The Bad Plus, Robert Glasper Experiment and New Orleans trumpeter Christian Scott.
