December is just around the corner, and with it comes the glitz and glamour of party season. The biggest date in the calendar is New Year’s Eve, or as it’s called in Scotland, Hogmanay. The Scots sure know how to ring in the New Year – wherever you are when the clock strikes, you’re sure to see a sky that’s lit with fireworks, as endless parties and well-wishers bring in the New Year.

Each year, thousands of revellers flock to Edinburgh and Glasgow to celebrate New Year’s Eve. Why don’t you experience NYE with a twist, and head to Aberdeen this December 31st? Here, we’ll explore some of that The Granite City has to offer.

Hogmanay Live

Ring in the new year in traditional Scottish style with Hogmanay Live. This musical extravaganza is held in the Tivoli Theatre. It’s broadcast all across the UK, and promises a night of traditional Scottish music to welcome 2019. For those who want to party into the small hours, there’s a five-piece indie band from Dunfermline who are sure to have you dancing on the tables well into the New Year.

Aberdeen Street Party and Fireworks Display

Last year, thousands of people helped Aberdeen welcome 2018 with a huge street party organised by Aberdeen City Council. The street party was a huge success, with performances by several local bands and a magnificent firework display as the clock struck midnight.

The street party for 2019 has yet to be announced, but if last year’s is anything to go by it will be an unforgettable night. Although you don’t need tickets for the event, there is a maximum capacity, so we recommend getting there early to avoid disappointment.

Top Tip: for the best view of the fireworks, head to Union Bride, Union Terrace or Schoolhill.

Stonehaven Fireballs Ceremony

Celebrate the New Year in a unique way with the Stonehaven Fireballs Ceremony. With an array of revellers parading along the High Street, expertly swinging balls of fire above their heads to create beautiful patterns and light up the dark skies, this is a unique way to see in the New Year. The parade ends with a fabulous firework display which can be seen for miles.

For a spectacular New Year’s Eve, you need the perfect place to stay. The Leonardo Hotel Aberdeen Airport is in an ideal location for party-goers staying in the city for NYE, and has 202 spacious, modern rooms so you can get some rest after dancing into the wee-hours.
