For all the film buffs out there, the Glasgow Film Festival takes place between 17 and 28 February 2016. Showing a number of Oscar nominated films including the Hateful Eight, Room, Brooklyn and more, the Glasgow Film Festival culminates on the date of the 88th Academy Awards on the 28th February; making this film festival the perfect lead up to Oscar night!
The UK premiere of Hail Caesar! has been chosen for the 2016 Glasgow Film Festival Opening Gala which takes place just days after its World Premiere in Berlin The hugely anticipated film from the Coen brothers features George Clooney, Scarlet Johansson and Tilda Swinton. The festival will close with the UK premiere of Charlie Kaufman’s stop-motion animation Anomalisa which won the Grand Special Jury Prize 2015 at the Venice Film Festival. Both films go on sale from Monday 18th January at 12 noon. The full festival programme will be announced on Wednesday 20 January and will be available on sale from Monday 25 January at 10am so be ready!
For those interested in filmmaking, this year the Glasgow Film Festival (GFF) will host an Industry Focus which will feature presentations and panels of industry experts discussing topics from development and funding through to distribution and exhibition. A number of special events will also take place including a screening of The Man Who Fell To Earth which is 40 years old this year and features the late icon David Bowie. Where better to watch this movie than inside the Space Zone on the spectacular screen of the Glasgow Science Centre Planetarium? And to finish the evening off, following the movie there is a guided tour through the solar system!
