Venturing up to the Granite City sometime soon? As well as admiring its dramatic architecture and fascinating historical sites, you’ll also find plenty to keep you entertained after dark. Whether whisky is your tipple of choice or you prefer a classic cocktail, quench your first at one of the following bars in Aberdeen.

CASC

Standing for Cigars, Ale, Scotch and Coffee, CASC pretty much does what it says on the tin. It’s widely thought of as one of the best bars in Aberdeen for a late-night tipple thanks to its 500+ whiskies and the fact it has its very own humidor.

If beer is more to your taste, you’ll also discover CASC has a vast range of local and international ales on tap and in bottles at the bar.

The Blue Lamp

If you want to combine cocktails with amazing live jazz performances, you’ve come to the right place at The Blue Lamp. The cosy candlelit bar is one of the best venues for Scottish and international jazz in the UK, plus it often hosts great stand-up comedy acts, too.

Drinks are decently priced at The Blue Lamp and an excellent sound system ensures pitch-perfect music. It’s also just down the road from the first ever Brewdog, one of the best pubs in Aberdeen.

The Tippling House

If you love seeking out a city’s most atmospheric drinking hole, The Tippling House should be on your radar. The cool speakeasy on Belmont Street features wood panelled walls and a handful of intimate plaid booths, making it ideal for a romantic date night.

The Tippling House is one of the best bars in Aberdeen for cocktails thanks to quirky concoctions like Out on Parole, which features a fresh mix of Moonshine, Byrrh, Aperol, peach bitters and soda. If you get a bit peckish, the Scottish-influenced food menu is also pretty tempting – think Shetland scallops and homemade scotch eggs.

Brewdog

This popular craft beer chain was actually founded in Aberdeen and it’s well worth a trip to the original Brewdog on Gallowgate. The building – formerly the Marischal pub – is kitted out like the chain’s other bars with a cool industrial inspired colour palette and spacious seating areas.

Sip on your favourite Brewdog beer or dare to try something completely new from the 100 or so rotating guest ales that are usually available at this contemporary Aberdeen pub. Can’t decide? Don’t hesitate to ask one of the bar staff for advice as they’re all craft beer connoisseurs.

The Illicit Still

You can’t visit Scotland without sampling some Scotch. Luckily, The Illicit Still is the ideal spot for a wee dram. It’s hidden up near Marischal College and is known for being the site of one of the last illegal whisky stills in the country.

The relaxed vibe and great variety of whiskies are not the only things that draw in visitors to this unique joint. The Illicit Still is also popular for its live music nights which take place every Saturday.
