Summer is officially here and that can only mean one thing – it’s time to find your nearest beer garden! Whether you want to soak up some rays with a cool pint or you’re after somewhere spacious to enjoy an alfresco evening meal, you’ll find plenty of great pubs in Nottinghamshire with outdoor areas.
Located right in the centre of the city in an attractive historic building, The Herbert Kilpin is a great independent pub to visit if you fancy a cool drink in between sightseeing or shopping.

It’s located just a stone’s throw from Nottingham Castle, making it a great pitstop if you’re exploring the city centre.
As well as its history and great selection of beers, Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem is also home to one of Nottingham’s most popular pub gardens. Order a drink and head out to the fairy light lit courtyard that’s got a selection of comfy picnic benches.
As you might have guessed from the name, this Nottingham pub sits right on the canal in the heart of the city. It’s unique not only for its great garden that overlooks the water, but also because it features a canal running through its interiors, too!
Listed as one of the top real ale pubs in Nottingham, the Canalhouse has a pretty impressive drink offering of over 250 different kinds of beer, ale and cider. It’s also less than a ten minute walk from our very own Leonardo Hotel Nottingham hotel, meaning you won’t have very far to go after a couple of pints.
If you’re after a pub garden that resembles a village green, you can’t go wrong with The Star Inn in Beeston. It’s situated a little further out of the centre than our other picks, but it’s worth the trip in the warmer months to enjoy the massive outdoor area.
A hearty menu of pub classics and a great beer selection is matched by The Star Inn’s spacious garden which features plenty of seating options (including some with outdoor heaters). Got kids with you? There’s even a children’s play area.
If you want plenty of space to stretch out, head to The Sir John Borlase Warren in Canning Circus. This cool pub’s beer garden is split over two levels and is surrounded by trees which help you forget that you’re actually sat in a bustling city.
Order your drinks and nibbles at the bar and then head outside to one of the spacious tables or comfy sofa areas. You’ll even find tiny micropub, the Dog and Thief, hidden in the garden if you’re keen to try a more specialist craft beer.
