Get a taste for independent coffee
Coffee has played a big part in the progression of Manchester’s creative culture over the past decade. From the heart of Manchester's high street shopping centre to further afield local independents, there’s plenty of options for that caffeine fix.
One of the city’s most unique coffee shops is Foundation Coffee House, located in the heart of Manchester’s Northern Quarter. Expect to find a range of filter blends from around the world, as well as the usual suspects, along with several types of brewing methods. Foundation also caters for the tea lovers, as well as those looking to lead a healthy lifestyle, with a wide selection of low sugar snacks, protein drinks and locally baked goods.
Incredible food meets incredible architecture
Manchester is vastly underrated for its food offerings. One quick walk around the centre and you’ll quickly come across the usual suspects, but if you wander away from the main drag you’ll find a whole host of speciality BBQ joints, diners, up-market small plates and modern cafes.
Jamie’s Italian can be found right at the top of Kings Street - an area known for its luxury retailers and beautiful architecture. Step one foot inside and you’ll realise why this makes our list. Not only does the menu offer everything from fried ravioli and signature rabbit ragu, but the restaurant’s interior also adds to the experience. In what was formerly an old bank, the restaurant retains many of the building’s traditional features (the bathrooms are housed downstairs in the vaults), which makes Jamie’s Italian one not to miss.
Get your culture fix
If you’re looking to soak in a little bit of the cities culture, then the Manchester Art Gallery should be high on your to-do list. Located just off St Peters Square, it’s a real clash of old and new; with its grand Victorian exterior and imposing ultra-modern glass walkways. The Manchester Art Gallery is known for hosting prestigious contemporary art, photography and design exhibitions, as well as their extensive collection of fine paintings, ceramics, costumes and furniture.
