Christmas Hotspot: Sheffield Christmas Market

Christmas in any city is a wonderful time of year; and Sheffield is no exception. If you’re looking for a way to pass a few hours during the festive season, then I would suggest heading into the City Centre to check out Sheffield Christmas Market, which runs right up until Christmas Eve. Although perhaps lesser-known than the Christmas markets in Leeds and Manchester, Sheffield’s take on the event packs a punch and should not be missed.



As well as more mulled wine and hot chocolate stands than you could shake a stick at, you’ll find festive huts offering up of all sorts of beautiful gifts and curiosities, many of which are made at home in Yorkshire. In recent years, the market has grown considerably and there are now over 50 stalls to choose from, so you’ll stand a good chance of picking up presents for all the loved ones in your life.  There are huts selling everything from sweet chocolate treats to jewellery, and even bespoke homeware pieces.

Once you’ve managed to bag yourself a few gifts, it’s surely time to indulge in some delicious food and drink. As ever, there’s the traditional German sausage stand, but you’ll also find more unusual cuisines such as a Caribbean stand. Why not finish the experience off with a tipple at either the Sleigh Bar or Thors Tipi, where you can treat yourself to a mulled wine or cider to help warm the cockles.



Of course, there’s also plenty for kids to do too, including a couple of fairground rides. And no visit to a Christmas market would be complete without a visit to Santa’s Grotto, where your young ones can get their photo taken with the man himself. 

Sheffield Christmas market runs from 10am-6pm each Sunday to Wednesday and 10am-8pm each Thursday to Saturday, until Christmas Eve.
