Nestled away within The Grand Arcade in Leeds, I have chosen Ham & Friends as my new favourite hotspot both for its warm welcome and the fantastic range of alcoholic beverages it has on offer. Not to mention its ultra-slick and stylish decor; perfect for those Insta-shots!

When you arrive at the arcade, you’ll be met with stunning Victorian architecture. Marvel at the beautiful glass roof, wooden flooring and ornate beams as you dive into the independents and boutiques that line it on both sides. Refurbished in 2013, expect to find beauty parlours and hidden-away eateries as you go – including Ham & Friends!
Ham & Friends work with carefully selected suppliers to deliver quality produce, which they serve up through a gorgeous wine bar, a restaurant, a wine shop, a food hall and a deli – all in one place. Spread across two floors, you have the option of kicking back with an ethically-produced bottle of wine for an hour or two, or simply diving into their Food Hall & Wine Shop to pick up something special as you pass.
Having visited a fair few times, my favourite choices on the menu would have to be the Forest Gin & Tonic alongside the delicious Chocolate Éclair. Whether you’re looking for a quiet reading space or a place to natter with your pals, Ham & Friends’ different zones allow you to find the ambience that suits you. Personally, I enjoy sitting in the centre of the action to soak in the atmosphere!
If you do get a chance to visit, then be sure to pick up a copy of the Independent Leeds magazine, which lists many more places to visit around the city, all of which are independently run and are true hidden gems!
